Bridging tradition and innovation through contemporary classical music, film scores, devotional music and experimental sound design
Born in 1981 in Transylvania, Romania, Alin Gherman relocated to Belgium at age 11, where he embarked on his journey as a composer and self-taught musician. He later studied composition at the Royal Conservatory of Brussels with Daniel Capeletti, and at the Akademia Muzyczna w Krakowie with Zbigniew Bargielski and Marek Chołoniewski.
Supported by a scholarship from the Swiss Confederation, he continued studies in instrumental theatre at the Bern University of the Arts with Georges Aperghis, Xavier Dayer, Eric Gaudibert and Pierre Sublet, and completed a film music program at the Zurich University of the Arts with Domenico Ferrari.
He has taken part in international masterclasses and composed the soundtrack for Ein Werktag, performed live at the Winterthur Short Film Festival (2009). His work has been commissioned by the Tonhalle Zürich, Concours de Genève, Pro Helvetia, the European Contemporary Orchestra and Musiques Nouvelles.
He is a prizewinner of the Beijing Modern Music Festival YCP Competition 2011 and Icon Arts Romania 2005, with works presented at the ISCM Musicarama 2015 Hong Kong and Expo 2015 Milan. Published by Éditions Papillon.
Following his encounter with Native American ceremonial music traditions and the sacred currents of Kirtan chanting, his path unfolds as a living offering — music becoming a vessel for inner transformation. As a yogi, he now serves through the creation of prayerful musical forms and ritual soundscapes, holding space for the expansion of awareness and the gentle awakening of the inner Light.
